An IB World School

Welcome Back 2021!

Dear Bennett Families,

We are excited to see students, families, and staff return to the normal flow of school after a very challenging year. This school year will kick off with full-time, in-person education for all students. The Larimer County Department of Health and Environment (LCDHE) and Poudre School District are monitoring the current COVID trends in our state, county, and city.

Class assignments:  Class assignments will be available on August 10th on Parent Vue.  When you log on, you will need to review and sign the Student Code of Conduct before you can access the information. Additionally, class lists will be posted on the library windows in front of the school on August 10th at 4:00 pm.  If you need help with Parent VUE, please email our office manager, Michelle Scarberry at mscarberry@psdschools.org.

School hours and days:  The first day of school will be Monday, August 16th.  The first bell rings at 8:40 and the starting bell rings at 8:50.  Students should be in their class before the starting bell.

Morning Arrival:  Students will enter and exit the school from their classroom doors this year.  There is no supervision for students prior to 8:30.  At 8:30, students may be dropped off.  Students will report either to get breakfast or directly to their outside door to wait for the teacher to open the door at 8:40.  If you drive your student to school, you will drop them off in the drop-off lane in the east parking lot.  Do not drop off until 8:30.  There will be staff on duty at 8:30 to supervise drop-off.

Breakfast and lunch:  Breakfast will be served starting at 8:30.  If your student would like a breakfast, they will enter through the back cafeteria doors, get breakfast, and head to their back classroom door to wait to be let in.  Breakfast will be eaten in the classroom.  Lunch will be eaten in the cafeteria this year, one grade level at a time.  Students will sit with their class by a seating chart for contact tracing purposes.  Breakfast and lunch are free to all families this year.

Recess:  Students will be allowed to mix with other students in their grade level during recess this year as allowed per current health guidelines.

School supply drop-off:  We will have our traditional school supply drop-off on August 13th from 4:00-5:00.  BCO (our parent organization) and some of our staff including administration will be out front from 4:00-5:30 to answer any questions you may have. Please stop by, enjoy a popsicle, grab a Bennett sticker and say hello!  Please see attached map for room locations.

Back to School Night:  Back to School night will be on August 19th.  More details about Back to School Night to come soon.

Before and After School:  Alphabest is still serving families for before and after school care.  Visit www.alphabest.org/poudreco for more information.  We will be following the number system we used last year for dismissal, but will start at 3:25.  You will be given a new number this year. Please see the attachment for detailed arrival and dismissal procedures.

PSD Health and Safety Protocols The latest COVID-19 information can be found on the PSD website. I know that many of you are anxious to know about the mask situation and we are too.  The district will be putting out communication on mask guidance very soon.  We will follow district guidelines.

Art – We have made a change to how art will be delivered this year.  Our regular specials schedule will be followed where students alternate between music, Spanish and PE on Mon-Thurs.  On Fridays, all classes will receive the art special.  We will be delivering the same art curriculum and content that students have had in the past, but the curriculum will be delivered by our other specialists.  In addition, we are partnering with the Fort Collins Museum of Art to offer some other enriching art opportunities to our students.  Stay tuned for more information!

Additional Information:  If you are in need of a backpack with supplies, please contact Michelle Scarberry in the front office.  School supply lists are posted on our school website at https://ben.psdschools.org/news/2021-07-28
