OM Informational Night
When: Tuesday, October 17th 6:00pm-7:00pm in Room 1
Who: Previous and new families interested in Odyssey of the Mind. Kids are welcome!
At the meeting we will:
- Explore the Odyssey of the Mind program and its benefits for our students
- Show you examples of typical OM problems. Bring your kids so they can see how fun OM is!
- Review important dates, costs, and time commitment
- Give you insight on what coaching a team looks like and the resources available to help
- Answer questions you might have
- Help you network to start organizing teams and identify coaches
The Poudre River Regional Director will join us for a hands-on demonstration and to answer questions.
Odyssey of the mind is an all-volunteer organization and, as such, the number of teams we have is limited by the number of parent volunteers we have to serve as coaches. Join us at the meeting to learn more and please note the following important deadlines, as they are fast approaching:
- Team Registration & Payment: October 24th
- Coaches Registration: October 24th
- Mandatory Training: November 4th

Odyssey of the Mind Basics
Odyssey of the Mind encourages students to develop teamwork and creative problem-solving methods while having fun in the process. Teams choose a long-term problem for which they create a solution, and then present their solution in tournament with other teams in the same problem and division. This is when you will get to see your child’s performance. Teams will also be asked to solve a spontaneous problem – a short-term verbal and/or hands-on problem that will be new to them on the day of competition.
Team members come up with all the ideas for their solutions and do all the work themselves. This is an exciting process to watch. OM is a hands-on activity for students and hands-off for adults. Any outside assistance in solving their long-term problem, whether from coaches, parents, siblings or friends, is against the rules. Once students realize this, they become incredibly empowered and get truly creative. By tapping into creativity, and through encouraging imaginative paths to problem solving, students learn skills that will provide them with the ability to solve problems – great and small – for a lifetime.
