My name is Molly Hanson and I teach art at Bennett Elementary! I am a first-year teacher, having graduated with A BFA and teaching degree from CSU in 2023. I am so excited to be a part of the Bennett community! I am originally from Lafayette, Colorado, and moved to Fort Collins in 2019. When I am not teaching, I enjoy being in the mountains, making art, baking, and watching movies.
As we begin to establish our practices in the art room, you might notice some differences to the art your student brings home or the lessons your students learn. This is because we are transitioning to a TAB classroom. TAB, "Teaching for Artistic Behavior", is a choice-based approach, giving freedom and responsibility to each artist in the classroom. The TAB classroom opens space for self-directed learning while also providing structure and expectation. This practice aligns with the IB Learner Profile, encouraging reflection, risk-taking, inquiry, and more. As we transition towards creating our own topics of inquiry, medium of choice, and media skill, you might notice your student bringing home a lot of art, no art, or art that looks different than you expect- which is okay! Experimentation and exploration are important steps of the process. If you are interested in learning more about TAB, you can find information here: https://teachingforartisticbehavior.org/ .
If you would like to donate supplies to or volunteer in the art room, please email me! The art room is always accepting donations of clean, dry, recyclables, e.g. paper towel tubes, cereal boxes, tissue boxes, egg cartons, etc.
